In 2016, Darren was a young, ambitious, extroverted boy starting his new life in Hong Kong, thrilled about all the people he was going to meet! Ziwei, having come to HK a year earlier with her dream to be a big shot rocket engineer starting her second year in University!

Having different backgrounds and interests, their paths finally crossed due to their common faith, when Darren was invited to join a church that Ziwei was already part of.

With a shared passion for music and engineering, their friendship continued to grow through serving together on the audio visual team, where they would spend a lot of time setting up equipment and teaching each other different skills. Little did they know that one day they would spend the rest of their lives together.

At this point, their friendship continued to grow through different projects and serving opportunities. However, as Darren eventually became 'occupied', they both still saw each other as no more than church buddies.

Around this time, both Darren and Ziwei had decided to pursue their passion for music and worship even further by joining the worship team, where they began to learn more about worship and serve together on stage for the first time. 

Their mutual admiration for each other continued to grow more and more as their faith also grew.

As they both graduated and started their careers in the big city of Hong Kong, their lives started to veer off separately, only seeing each other on weekends. When the pandemic hit, both Ziwei and Darren experienced many changes in their lives with job changes and adapting to the pandemic lifestyle. Most notably, Darren became "available."

With slivers of light starting to shine through the end of the tunnel, and covid measures started to cool down, Darren started a new a hobby with some of his friends and coworkers: Bouldering.

Knowing that Ziwei would always be down for a fun time, Darren decided to invite Ziwei to join him, and at that point it was love at first sight (the rocks, not Darren yet).

As they started to regularly spend time with each other and climbing with other friends, they both began to learn more about each others' backgrounds and families, realising that they had a lot in common and shared the same sense of humor.

Naturally, a tiny little spark started grow brighter, eventually leading to Darren asking Ziwei if she wanted to be his girlfriend.

They then began their relationship and have shared many laughs and memories together, even calling on Facetime every single night, when the timezones permitted.

Darren and Ziwei also found themselves in community with new friends and wiser couples, which inspired conversations of marriage and dreams of starting a family some day!

Ziwei was ready and just patiently waiting for Darren to pop the question.

After almost two years of dating, Darren romantically went down on one knee to propose to Ziwei at the same beach where their relationship began. With tears flowing, she said "yes" to the man of her dreams.
