In 2021, Demi and Josh embarked on a journey unbeknownst to them. Together, they crossed a vast separation of over 16,000 kilometers to explore the possibilities of a long-distance relationship. What began as a casual connection evolved into something profound after months of heartfelt conversations. What initially might have seemed like a fleeting spark transformed into an enduring love.

After over a year of talking, they finally met in person in San Francisco for their first date at the Grove in November 2022. Despite their initial shyness, they had an undeniable connection. As the following days unfolded, Demi and Josh not only discovered more about each other but also embraced the warmth of each other's families and friends.

During another trip to the United States in the summer of 2023, Demi and Josh traveled all over the country visiting friends and family. After Demi returned home to Jakarta, and both had time to reflect on all the joyous memories they had made, Josh realized that Demi was the woman he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. He began planning the proposal in August, and by October, Josh was on a plane to Indonesia to ask for her hand in marriage. They planned a beautiful week in Bali and stayed at a lovely resort in the Ubud area. With a romantic dinner on the schedule, which Demi was unaware of, it was only 1 hour prior that she mentioned not having nice shoes, and all she had packed were Birkenstocks. After some laughing by Josh, and Demi not knowing why, they made a quick trip to the nearest Havaianas to grab a more passable pair of slippers. Later, during their candlelit dinner overlooking the tropical forest, Josh asked Demi to be his wife.
